Zusammenfassung

The Life and Letters of Francis Lieber is a comprehensive biography of the German-American philosopher, political theorist, and jurist Francis Lieber. Written by Lieber himself, this book offers a unique perspective on his life and work, as well as his contributions to American intellectual history. The book is divided into two parts. The first part is a detailed account of Lieber's life, from his childhood in Berlin to his emigration to the United States in 1827. It covers his education, his early career as a journalist and writer, and his later work as a professor of political science and law at Columbia University and the University of South Carolina. The second part of the book is a collection of Lieber's letters, which provide insight into his personal life, his intellectual interests, and his relationships with other prominent thinkers of his time. These letters cover a wide range of topics, including political philosophy, legal theory, and the history of ideas.Overall, The Life and Letters of Francis Lieber is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of American intellectual thought, as well as the life and work of one of its most important figures. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

FRANCIS LIEBER (1798-1872) was a German-born US lawyer and political philosopher. He fought with the Prussian Army in 1815 during the Napoleonic Wars. After being imprisoned in Prussia, he fled to England and immigrated to the United States in 1827, where he became famous for writing The Lieber Code.
