Janet Ross-Kerr is Professor Emeritus, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BScN), the University of Wisconsin (MS), and the University of Michigan (PhD). She is a nursing historian who has published a number of books including: Contemporary Issues in Canadian Law for Nurses (1973); International Issues in Nursing Research (1986); Concepts in Canadian Nursing (1996); Introduction to Issues in Community Health Nursing in Canada (1996); and Canadian Nursing: Issues and Perspectives (2002 - through five editions);. Her book on the history of nursing in Alberta was published by the University of Alberta Press in 1998: Prepared to Care: Nurses and Nursing in Alberta, 1859 to 1996. She has served as President of the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses (now CARNA) and member of the board of the Canadian Nurses Association. Further, she has held research grants from the National Health Research and Development Program, the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research and the Canadian Nurses Respiratory Association. Honours include the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto (2003), the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses Research Award (2000), the Killam Annual Professorship (University of Alberta, 1994-95) and the McCalla Professorship, (University of Alberta, 1990-91.)
